CERVICAL HEALTH

Colposcopy in Liverpool

Reassuring, thorough cervical assessment after an abnormal screening test — at Dr Bakhit’s Liverpool rooms.

Colposcopy Clinic in Liverpool

Being told your cervical screening test was abnormal is unsettling, but in the vast majority of cases it doesn’t mean anything serious — it means further assessment is needed, and that’s exactly what colposcopy provides. Dr Bakhit runs a colposcopy clinic from his Liverpool rooms for women referred by their GP, community health centres and family planning clinics across south-west Sydney. Most appointments take around 20–30 minutes and you can usually go straight back to normal activities afterwards.

What Does Colposcopy in Liverpool Involve?

Pre-Colposcopy Discussion

Before the examination itself, Dr Bakhit walks you through why you were referred, what HPV and cytology results actually mean, and what the procedure will involve step by step. No medical jargon, no rushing — you leave the appointment understanding exactly what’s happening and why.

The Colposcopy Examination

The examination uses a colposcope — essentially a high-magnification microscope that looks at the cervix from outside the body. Dilute vinegar and iodine solutions highlight any abnormal areas, and if biopsies are needed they are taken at the same appointment.

Cervical Biopsies

Biopsies are small tissue samples taken from any area of the cervix that looks abnormal under colposcopy. Most women describe them as a pinch rather than a pain, and any brief cramping settles within minutes.

Treatment: LLETZ & Loop Excision

If biopsies confirm high-grade changes, treatment with LLETZ (large loop excision of the transformation zone) is usually offered. This is a short day-surgery procedure with high cure rates and minimal impact on future fertility or pregnancy.

Follow-Up & Test of Cure

After treatment, Dr Bakhit arranges follow-up testing at appropriate intervals to confirm the abnormality has cleared. Follow-ups are conducted at the Liverpool rooms so you remain with the same specialist throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions About Colposcopy in Liverpool

Colposcopy itself is not painful — it is similar to a speculum examination. Biopsies may cause brief cramping similar to period pain, which settles within minutes.
Yes. Colposcopy is an outpatient procedure performed without anaesthetic, so you can drive home and return to work straight away if you wish.
Biopsy results typically take 7–10 working days. Dr Bakhit contacts you personally with the results and arranges a follow-up plan.
Colposcopy on its own has no impact on future fertility or pregnancy. Even where LLETZ treatment is needed, the effect on future pregnancy is small and will be discussed in detail before any procedure.
