Colposcopy in Gregory Hills

Specialist cervical examination for your peace of mind. Colposcopy procedures performed at Dr Bakhit\’s Gregory Hills consulting rooms.

Colposcopy Services

A colposcopy is a detailed examination of the cervix using a special magnifying instrument called a colposcope. It is usually recommended after an abnormal cervical screening test (Pap test) or a positive HPV result, and allows Dr Bakhit to closely examine the cervix for any areas that may require further investigation or treatment.

Colposcopy is a common, well-established procedure and there is no need to feel anxious. Dr Bakhit takes a gentle, reassuring approach, explaining every step so you feel comfortable and informed throughout.

Colposcopy procedures are performed at Dr Bakhit’s Gregory Hills consulting rooms (Suite 4, 1 Hermitage Way, Gregory Hills NSW 2557). Patient consultations, management discussions, and follow-up care can be conducted at either the Gregory Hills rooms or at South West Private Hospital, depending on your preference and convenience.

Understanding the Colposcopy Procedure

Why You May Need a Colposcopy

Your doctor may refer you for a colposcopy if your cervical screening test shows abnormal cell changes, a positive HPV result, or if the cervix appears unusual during a routine examination. A colposcopy provides a closer look to determine whether any treatment is needed.

What Happens During a Colposcopy

The procedure is similar to a Pap test. You will lie on an examination bed and a speculum is gently inserted. The colposcope, which remains outside the body, magnifies the cervix so Dr Bakhit can examine it in detail. A mild acetic acid solution may be applied to the cervix to highlight any abnormal areas.

Cervical Biopsy

If any areas of concern are identified, Dr Bakhit may take a small tissue sample (biopsy) for laboratory analysis. This helps determine the nature of the changes and guides treatment decisions. You may feel a brief pinch during a biopsy.

Treatment Options

If treatment is required, the most common procedure is LLETZ (Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone), which removes the affected area of the cervix using a thin wire loop. Colposcopy is carried out at our Gregory Hills rooms. If treatment is required, it can be performed at South West Private Hospital in Gregory Hills or at The George Centre in Gregory Hills, ensuring continuity of care across all locations.
